Also…this is the day the crowds begin to pour into town for the annual Bayou Classic when Southern University meets Grambling in this great state football game.

Looking for a safe, cultural way to spend Halloween this year? Bring the family and everyone you know to the Krewe of Boo parade, the city’s first Halloween parade, set to roll downtown October 31st.

The parade is also first in New Orleans to have a completely charitable cause, benefiting the First Responders Fund, a charitable organization set up to help police officers get back into their homes post Katrina.

Krewe of Boo begins at 7pm at the corner of Elysian Fields and Decatur, and rolls downtown throughout South Peters, Canal Street and Bourbon Street.

New Orleans is the most well-known and most-visited destination in Louisiana, and understandably so! From the restaurants in New Orleans to the festivals to the shops in the French Quarter - there’s a lot to do and to experience in the city of New Orleans. But just in case you’re running out of things to do or see…consider the outskirts of New Orleans and the parishes outside of Jefferson and Orleans.

The River Parishes of Louisiana are home to a lot of great sites to see as well! If you’ve never explored the River Parishes, you might want to take a weekend and plan some day trips. While the river parishes aren’t as well-known as Orleans Parish, there’s a lot to see.

For starters, there are a great deal of outdoor activities in the River Parishes. If boating is your thing, the Bonne Carre Spillway is there, as well as many other locations. Golf is a sport you can play at one of the five country clubs, or at the St. Rose Driving Range.

After a trip to the driving range or a swamp tour - you’ll be hungry. But no worries, because there are many great restaurants to choose from!

So keep the River Parishes (St. Charles, St. James, and St. John) in mind when you’re looking for something to do, and you want to see what’s going on right outside of the Big Easy!

If the Soniat House Hotel has somehow missed your radar, now would be the perfect time to check it out.

One of the most acclaimed luxury boutique hotels in the New Orleans French Quarter, the Soniat House Hotel was named “one of the best hotels in the world” more than once by Travel and Leisure.

A small hotel comprised of three historic townhouses, with balconies and secluded courtyard, the hotel allows one to step back into a bit of New Orleans history….and of course, it is a non-smoking establishment.
