I was standing on Bourbon Street, listening to all of the sounds that New Orleans and Mardi Gras had to offer when this man walks up to me, interrupting my thoughts. "Lost in paradise?" he asked. "Yeah, you could say that," I said."Why aren't you smiling then?" he asked."Because I don't have anyone to smile at," I responded. "Well, do you want a reason?" he asked. I nodded slowly, not quite sure I knew what he meant. He then leaned down and kissed me gingerly on my lips. It was wonderful, like we were the only two people there. But then, as we were standing there, holding each other, a riot broke out and we were pushed apart by the shear force of the crowd. I was devastated that I had lost him. I didn't even know his name. I spent the rest of the weekend looking for him. The last day, Fat Tuesday, I was with friends, watching the final parade. The second to the last float, I looked up and there he was, riding the float. He saw me and managed to get me up there with him. That was a year ago. We are now engaged! Thanks to Mardi Gras!! That place really is magic!!! 2/19/96
