I went to Mardi Gras three years in a row....the times I had got better and better with each year! I have a friend who lives in Baton Rouge, so my roommate and I came out the first two years (1994, 1995) and stayed with him. That was quite an experience, driving back and forth from New Orleans for four straight days! This year we got smart and got a room at the Fairmont. Beautiful weather, and a real great time! We brought a camcorder, and met some interesting people. I brought a costume for the first time; I was a skeleton with a long, velvet cape. Mardi Gras night was the best. A thick fog lay over the Quarter (I'm from San Francisco, and it's been a while since I've seen fog like that!), making for a magical, mystical atmosphere. I'm trying to get a crew of friends together for next year. I can't wait!
