Some of my favorite memories of Mardi Gras are the times our family enjoyed the parade so much that the minute we saw the last float approaching, we rushed to the car, piled in, and raced to the end of the parade route so we could catch it again! We would sometimes catch the New Orleans parade, then drive to Metairie for their parade.... and then head to the end of the route to catch it again! I also remember the trick to getting the good throws! Marc would put me on his shoulders...and I would hold my small children on mine--(the riders can't pass up the kiddies!)--when they saw the efforts to which we went, they couldn't help but reward us with a good throw! That's probably where we got most of the stuffed animals we own today! Don't let the news media mislead you! Mardi Gras is a family event--bring the kids!
