I visited NO two years ago, during the Spring Festival. It was the best time my friends and I ever had. We still love to talk, laugh and remember the fabulous sights, people and food. One day while in the French Quarter, we were having our very first po' boys in Jackson Square. We sat down on an old weather worn bench, and proceeded to enjoy our sandwiches and watch the people. To my right was an elderly, black woman, clutching a handbag, and a po' boy of her own. She saw me glance at her and gave me the warmest, most welcoming smile I'd ever seen. We got talking about some of the best cafe's to go to, the places to be careful of, and the great weather. She quickly brought me up to date on her children's lives, while I explained that I was from Canada. I was almost sad when my friends decided to continue our discovery of the Quarter, since I could have talked to this woman all day. However, she encouraged me to go and visit the sites she had just told me of. The lighting in the park that day, the view of the statue, St. Louis Cathedral and the lure of faint jazz music from a nearby cafe' inspired me to paint a picture of my wonderful memories of this magical place. I have so much more to share, but I don't think I'd have enough time or space. I love New Orleans!
