My heart is broken. I first visited New Orleans in September 2003 with my girlfriend Laurie, two single women in a city beyond words and desires. The city took hold of us and never let go, capturing her ever so incredible heart into ours and yearning for us to return. We returned in March 2004 with an eagerness to explore further through the awesome beaty of the Garden District, to the magnificent shops of Royal Street, stopping to talk with the vendors and artists of Jackson Square, and always finishing our nights in the beloved wonder of the French Quarter. I remember taking a few moments to say a prayer in St. Louis' Cathedral, blessings that we could have an incredible stay in the city we loved so much. I am saying prayers for you now in a hope that you have the faith, courage, and preserverance to make it through this horrific and uncomprehendable loss. Words cannot express my heartfelt sadness for the incredible loving people of New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with every single one of you. Laurie and I finalized our plans for our third trip to New Orleans this December in celebration of my 40th birthday. When we are allowed to come visit- to embrace you with hugs, and memories and stories, we will be on the next plane down and we will celebrate then and celebrate you. Until then, you ARE resilient, our cherished city New Orleans. You defined the two of us, and you are right, you are not replaceable. We love you and we will see you soon.
