On the evening of February 11th, I emerged from the Gold Mine in order to catch my breath and cool off after several hours of dancing. I walked down to Bourbon to see what was going on. Just a few minutes into weaving though the crowd, I heard a voice behind me. "Hey, do you know your way around here pretty well?" Sensing that I had become this man's target for the evening, I neither bothered to turn around or stop, I simply conveyed that, yes, I had a fairly functional knowledge of the area. After explaining to me that this was his first time in the city, and that he had lost his friends, the inevitable "line" finally reached my ears. "Can I put my hands in your back pockets and follow you around for awhile?" Despite the fact that I normally prided myself on never having fallen for such a tactic, I felt myself stop, turn around, and stare into quite possibly the most beautiful blue eyes in the world. The next thing I knew I had agreed to allowing him to return to the Bar with me. In the time it took us to walk around the corner to the Gold Mine, I had already fallen in love. Two years later, we are married and have a nine-month old son (who has his father's eyes). ... I guess that goes to show that you never know what will happen to you at Mardi Gras, and that is one of the reasons that I love it so....
