In the city where jazz was born, and the food was and still is the best ... the best memory that I have of the "Big Easy" is when I was stationed at Fort Polk, and took my pass days in N'awlins! Three days in April, of walking around this wonderful, historic, and exciting city. Enjoying the great food, the people, and even though it was 1973, there was something that kept saying, "y'all come back, he'ar!" Now, that my son is in college, and it is just me and my wife, I would love to bring her down during the Mardi Gras season, and really let her see the sights, and sounds of the GREATEST FREE SHOW ON EARTH, I just don't know where the best place for the best seats are in the house! Like you say, the press always shows the seedy side of the city, rarely the good sides. That is what I would like her to experience! Also, every time I have been back, I never fail to pick up at least 3 cookbooks from the many different restaurants in the city, and duplicate those wonderful delicacies in my kitchen at home. It is just that alligator, Oysters, crabs, and crawfish are so hard to get fresh up here in the cold northeast. If it weren't for the heat and humidity I would probably move there yesterday.
