MARDI GRAS PARADE KREWES

Krewe of Choctaw

Gretna Mardi GrasFounded in 1935, The Krewe of Choctaw had their first parade in 1939, 4 years after the founding of the organization. Although taking the name of a Native American tribe which had inhabited Louisiana, the krewe's roots are in southern government. Comprised of 225 male, female and child riders, 6 floats and marching band, this krewe is also known for a street parade as well as a river parade. After a few changes over the year, the Krewe of Choctaw now follows the Krewe of Grela through Gretna on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish
