March 1 2018 | New Orleans

The Historic New Orleans Collection is marking New Orleans’ tricentennial with a fascinating new exhibit entitled, “New Orleans, the Founding Era,” which explores New Orleans’s birth and early years. The display offers the perspectives of the native populations who inhabited the land before France’s arrival and during its early years, enslaved Africans, and early European settlers.

Come see 135 original objects complemented by large reproductions and interactive items. Several items are on loan to THNOC from organizations in Spain, France, Canada and around the U.S. – many rarely seen outside their home institutions. A companion book is also available.

The exhibit is free and open to the public at 533 Royal St. now through May 27, 2018 from Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and Sunday, 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Tours are offered regularly at 11 a.m. for $5 per person.
