Shop Away In the Vieux Carre - Christmas Tree Lighting
- Date: Nov 17, 2016
- Location: French Quarter
Price: Free to the public, minus what you spend on all your Christmas shopping
Every November, the French Quarter has a tradition – kicking off the holidays with a day of holiday shopping fun. It’s ‘Shop Away in the Vieux Carre,” and it’s arguably the best time to shop in the French Quarter all year.
Starting when the stores open the morning of Nov. 20, shoppers can take advantage of incredible discounts while Christmas shopping in the French Quarter. At 10 a.m., the first shopping tour of the day will kick off, which starts at the Christmas tree by the French Market and takes the shopping group to six shops throughout the district. At each shop, the group can meet the store-owners, artists, chefs, clothing designers, and get a great behind-the-scenes look at French Quarter shopping. The tours are free, take place throughout the day, and can have up to 15 people (first come, first serve).
While walking from store to store, shoppers will be able to enjoy a wide range of live entertainment happening throughout the French Quarter between businesses.
And if you don’t feel like walking, you can take a free pedi-cab ride between stores at designated pick-up posts!
One of our favorite events happens at 6 p.m. – the lighting of the French Market Christmas tree. Once the tree is lit, a brass band will lead a group of carolers to Jackson Square, where the public can join in singing with the provided song sheets. It’s truly a great holiday experience.
