Fun and Games
Sure, New Orleans is famous for food, music and festivals. But ask the locals, and we’ll tell you there are plenty of other ways to have a good time, too. When we need a family day, a rainy-day activity, a little friendly competition or just an excuse to get out of the house, these are some of the places we recommend. From storybook adventures in City Park to golf simulators, arcades and games that bring out everyone’s competitive side, here’s where we go when it’s time to play.
When we're looking for a place that keeps everyone happy, Loft18 is always a solid choice. Even if nobody in your group takes golf too seriously, the state-of-the-art simulators make it easy—and surprisingly addictive—to play some of the world's most famous courses. Add great food, craft cocktails, plenty of TVs and interactive games, and you've got the kind of place where one round somehow turns into an entire afternoon. It's just as good for family outings as it is for date nights or watching the big game with friends.
When the weather doesn't cooperate—or everyone just wants to burn off some energy—we head to Game On Social Hub in Kenner. With augmented reality bowling, a two-story laser tag arena, axe throwing, a huge arcade, and a full restaurant and bar, it's easy to spend a few hours here without anyone asking, "What should we do next?" Whether you're celebrating a birthday or simply looking for a fun afternoon with family or an evening with friends, Game On should be on your list.
If you're visiting with kids, don't miss one of our favorite New Orleans traditions. Generations of local families have grown up exploring Storyland, climbing through larger-than-life fairy tales and making memories in the heart of City Park. Right next door, Carousel Gardens is home to the beloved Flying Horses Carousel—one of the oldest operating carousels in the country—along with classic amusement rides that never seem to go out of style. It's the kind of place parents remember from childhood and can't wait to share with the next generation.
Only in New Orleans can you go bowling and wind up dancing to zydeco before your next frame. Rock 'n' Bowl is a local institution where 18 lanes share the spotlight with live music, a big dance floor, food and drinks. Come to bowl a few games, then stick around for everything from zydeco and R&B to swamp pop and party bands. It's lively, laid-back and unmistakably New Orleans—the kind of place we love taking out-of-town guests because there's really nothing else quite like it.
