Music, food and fireworks kick off the holiday July 3, from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Lafreniere Park 3000 Downs Blvd., Metairie. Performers include Bret Michaels, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, Orleans, Amanda Shaw, Mixed Nuts, the Topcats and the Marine Forces Reserve Brass Band. Plus, a hot-dog eating contest.
