Five Ways to Celebrate the 4th in New Orleans

New Orleans’ colors aren’t just purple, green and gold – they’re red, white and blue.

While New Orleans was part of France until 1802, nobody knows how to celebrate Independence Day like we do. Here’s what’s going on – and where fireworks are going off – around town.

Uncle Sam Jam in Lafreniere Park, July 3

Celebrate America in Metairie at Uncle Sam Jam with live music, fireworks, and fun food. This free festival features popular local entertainment as well as national acts. Learn more.

3rd of July Celebration at City Park

If you can’t wait for the 4th to celebrate your freedom, do it at City Park on the 3rd!  Bring chairs or a blanket to the Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn on Wednesday for patriot tunes from the Marine Forces Reserve Band and fireworks from the Peristyle. Pack your own picnic or hit the concessions. The concert starts at 7:15 p.m. and the fireworks will follow at 9:15 p.m. Learn more.

Go 4th on the River

There’s no better way celebrate the red, white and blue than with fireworks shooting from a barge on the Mississippi River in rhythm to patriotic tunes. View the festivities from Woldenberg Park, Jax Brewery, the Moonwalk, or elsewhere in the Vieux Carré or watch from Algiers Point on the Westbank. Festivities begin at 6:00 p.m. with a water show from a fireboat. Find out more.
