Everything You Need to Know About
This Once-in-a-Generation Celebration

In 2026, New Orleans will make history once again — this time as the first official host city for Sail250, the nationwide maritime celebration honoring America’s 250th anniversary. From May 28 through June 1, 2026, the Mississippi River waterfront will transform into a spectacular showcase of towering tall ships, naval vessels, fireworks, live entertainment, and family-friendly events.

If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping aboard an international tall ship, watching a Parade of Sail glide down the Mississippi, or experiencing New Orleans at its most festive and unforgettable, Sail250 is the event to plan for now.

What Is Sail250?

Sail250 is a multi-city maritime celebration commemorating America’s 250th birthday, with New Orleans serving as the inaugural stop before the event continues to Norfolk, Baltimore, New York, and Boston.

The event will bring together one of the largest flotillas of tall ships and naval vessels ever assembled in the United States. Visitors can expect ships from around the world docked along the riverfront, stretching from the Crescent City Connection to Poland Avenue Wharf.

Featured vessels are expected to include:

  • The legendary USCGC Eagle
  • The Chilean training ship Esmeralda

Experience Sail250 from the Water Aboard the Steamboat NATCHEZ

One of the most unforgettable ways to experience Sail250 in New Orleans will be from the deck of the legendary Steamboat NATCHEZ. On Saturday, May 30, 2026, climb aboard a Dinner Jazz Cruise on the Mississippi River with live New Orleans jazz, a Creole buffet, and stunning skyline views, all leading up to a 9:00 p.m. fireworks show.

The NATCHEZ itself is also part of New Orleans history. The current vessel, launched in 1975, continues a long tradition of Mississippi River steamboats dating back to the 1800s and remains one of the city’s most recognizable waterfront attractions.
