Celebrate Labor Day weekend at the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival in Morgan City, Louisiana. September 1st – 5th.
Labor Day weekend is here, and what better way to spend your time off than with some Cajun music and delicious food? The Shrimp and Petroleum Festival is this weekend, September 1st – 5th in the downtown historic district of Morgan City, Louisiana.
If you can only make it out to the festival one day this weekend, be sure to arrive on Sunday. The events of Sunday carry forward the traditions of the very first Shrimp Festival back in 1937 with a Blessing of the Fleet. At 8:30 a.m., you can attend Mass in Lawrence Park before the official Blessing of the Fleet festivities on the Atchafalya River at 10 a.m. Be sure to grab a good spot to see the water parade featuring local shrimpers and citizens.
All weekend long, festival attendees can peruse the wares at the 34th Annual Arts & Crafts Show and Sale (under elevated Highway 90), and bands will play at the Music in the Park stage in Lawrence Park.
And don’t forget the food… no Louisiana festival would be complete without amazing food. The Shrimp and Petroleum Festival features everything “from jambalaya to fried alligator and everything in between! And of course… SHRIMP.”
