6 Reasons to Visit New Orleans This August

August 5, 2016 | New Orleans

Summer may be winding down, but New Orleans is heating up (and we don’t just mean literally).  With festival season kicking into high gear, we’ll be dancing the days and nights away with amazing music, delicious dining, and you can even experience a mini Mardi Gras parade.

COOLinary New Orleans

If you are a foodie, there is no better time to visit New Orleans than the month of August. This is because August is Coolinary month!

During Coolinary month, you can indulge in amazing dishes from some of the best restaurants in the country at incredibly affordable prices. Participating restaurants will be featuring 2-3 course lunch menus with options for $20 or less and 3 course dinner menus with options for $35 or less. Plus, they’ve added BRUNCH!

Satchmo Summerfest

Kick off August with a festival that celebrates one of New Orleans local legends, Luis Armstrong. This is a fantastic event for all ages showcasing what we are all about in the Big Easy – food, music, culture, and fun.

There will also be free seminars and movies all weekend long. Head on over to the Old U.S. Mint during the weekend of August 5th to join the fun.

White Linen Night & Dirty Linen Night

If you appreciate art, there is no better place to be in August than White Linen Night! Dress in white linen and take a walk down Julia Street on August 6nd to check out all the amazing art galleries while enjoying some local cuisine, entertainment, and cocktails.

But wait; don’t rush to wash your linens because Dirty Linen Night is just around the corner on August 13th. While this event began as a spoof on the white linen night, it is now an event of its own, celebrating the fantastic artists of Royal Street.

Both events are free from 6:00 p.m. to around 9:00 p.m. See you there!

Red Dress Run

If you happen to find yourself in the city on August 13th, don’t be alarmed by thousands of women and men wearing ridiculously wonderful red dresses participating in the 20th annual Red Dress Run. This event features a fun race, Expo, and an unforgettable after-party. But most importantly, the event is a great way to help out the New Orleans community, as the profits of the race are donated to over 60 charities throughout the city.  Needless to say, this is a great event that you don’t want to miss!

Saints Preseason Games

We bleed Black and Gold, so it’s no surprise we’ve been counting the days until our beloved Saints suit up and fans fill the Superdome. Well, the wait is over! The Saints take the field for the first time in New Orleans on August 26 against the Steelers, but you’ll be able to experience the Saints spirit around town as we pile into our favorite pubs to watch them take on the Patriots (away) on August 11.

With so many festivals going on, you’ll want to book your room soon! Bonus: many of our favorite hotels around town offer lower rates during the month of August.
