Le Petit Theatre’s production of Once is an intimate, heartfelt, and beautiful experience. Running June 4–21, 2026, this beloved Tony Award-winning musical finds a perfect home on Le Petit’s historic stage in the French Quarter.
Once is based on the 2007 motion picture written and directed by John Carney, with a book by Enda Walsh, and music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová. The musical includes the Academy Award-winning “Falling Slowly.” The production received eleven 2012 Tony Award nominations and won eight including Best Musical.

Directed by Conner Wilson, the production at Le Petit captures both the emotional depth and quiet wonder that have made Once a favorite around the world. Wilson allows the story’s humanity to take center stage, creating a deeply personal journey filled with hope, love, and the transformative power of music.
The title Once describes the fleeting, almost fairy tale encounter of a Dublin street musician and Hoover vacuum repairman known only as Guy (played by Patrick Cragin) and a funny, high-spirited Czech immigrant known only as Girl (played by Josie Oliva). While brief, their relationship is intense and transformative. Both performances are filled with authenticity and vulnerability. Their chemistry is effortless, making the evolving relationship at the center of the story feel genuine. As actor-musicians, they—and the entire ensemble—bring extraordinary energy and talent to every moment onstage.

What makes this production especially memorable is its celebration of live music. It’s an immersive experience and exactly the kind of storytelling that resonates in a city as deeply connected to music as New Orleans.
Uplifting. Exquisitely performed. Funny yet moving. Once is a reminder of why live theater matters.
